The United States is collapsing into an authoritarian state controlled by tech billionaires that is intent on waging economic warfare against its former allies — yet the digital technology we rely on every day for school, our businesses, and even our national security remains tightly coupled to it.

How can we start the process of decoupling? What do data and digital sovereignty look like when the United States is no longer a trustworthy ally? And how can we work internationally to protect our shared interests?

Come join Paris Marx and a panel featuring Dr Karaitiana Taiuru, to explore these questions and start considering an alternative approach.

Paris Marx is a Canadian tech critic and host of the award-winning Tech Won’t Save Us podcast. He speaks around the world about the politics of technology and recently co-authored a white paper called Reclaiming Digital Sovereignty. Paris also writes the Disconnect newsletter and is the author of Road to Nowhere: What Silicon Valley Gets Wrong about the Future of Transportation.

Our panelist, Dr Karaitiana Taiuru is one of Aotearoa New Zealand's leading voices in digital technology ethics and Māori data sovereignty. With over 30 years in the sector and deep expertise in integrating mātauranga Māori with emerging technologies, Dr Taiuru brings a unique perspective on identity, sovereignty, and tino rangatiratanga in the digital realm.
